How to get

Toledo is approximately 70Km (43 miles) south of Madrid. The nearest airport is Madrid’s Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport. The subway station at the airport takes to Madrid’s city center in 20 minutes. There are several options to reach Toledo:

BY ROAD: From the centre of Madrid you should head towards Glorieta de Atocha and take the road running due south, called Santa María de la Cabeza. The highway to Toledo is the A-42, and it is well sign-posted. The exit to Toledo is also well sign-posted from the M-30, Madrid's inner ring-road. The journey by car takes less than 1 hour.

BY TRAIN: The Railway station is located at the Paseo de la Rosa in Toledo (Tel: 925 22 3099). The train company is called RENFE. Around 15 fast trains (AVE) daily link Madrid with Toledo in around 30 minutes, communicating with large national and international rail lines. The departure station is Madrid’s Atocha railway station (Glorieta de Atocha; Tel: 91 328 90 20). Besides, several regular trains depart daily from the same station about every two hours. The trip takes a little less than two hours.

BY BUS: There are buses departing daily from Madrid for Toledo from the Plaza Elíptica Bus Station in Madrid (Metro: Estación Plaza Elíptica, Avda. Lusitana, s/n). The trip takes approximately one hour fifteen minutes (the company is ALSA). Besides, two early daily buses directly connect Madrid airport with Toledo, with a traveling time of 90 minutes. The bus station in Toledo is near the river, about three-quarters of a mile from the center up a steep ascent, although it is possible to take a local bus (numbers 5 or 6). Toledo is the perfect city to tour on foot. All of its monuments, museums and places of interest are close to one another, and long distances are not a problem.

TAXIS: A large fleet of taxis is also available. The main stops are located at the Cuesta del Alcazar, Cuesta de la Vega, and the bus station. There is no permanent taxi stop at the railway station. Radio taxi: Tel: 925 25 50 50.

ZOCOTRENA special sightseeing tourist train, called the ZocoTren, offers visitors a panoramic view of Toledo and a visit through some of the streets, with pre-recorded tourist information in Spanish, English and French. This train runs every day from 11 a.m. to 12 midnight, hourly in winter (October - March) and every 30 minutes in summer (April - September). Tickets may be bought at Calle Sillerías, 14. The trip takes approximately 50 minutes and starts in the Plaza de Zocodover.
